Our

Story

50 years in the making.

An

Immigrant's

Journey

Beginning in 1967, Fairy Lake Blue Discus Palace was started by the Chan family upon immigration to the United States from Hong Kong. Herman M. H. Chan, store owner and fish aficionado, has spent the past fifty years earning and upholding the reputation as a “fantastical discus breeder”.

An

Immigrant's

Journey

Fairy Lake, through dedication and care, serves as a captivating hub for not only fish-keeping enthusiasts, but the San Francisco community as a whole. Located at 1609 Clement Street, this humble space has brought the wonder of shimmering, fancy goldfish, exotic tropical fish, hardy starter fish, and prized, dazzling discus to the inner Richmond neighborhood. The shop might at first glance seem unusually situated amongst the surrounding apartments, houses, restaurants, but fifty years in the business has made this store an integral component of what makes San Francisco loving, bizarre, and fun.
